Niederotterbach is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Bergzabern community .
geography
Niederotterbach is located near the French border on the eponymous Otterbach in the Palatinate wine-growing region between the Palatinate Forest and the Bienwald . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Dierbach , Vollmersweiler , Steinfeld , Kapsweyer and Oberotterbach .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 992. Until the 18th century it belonged to the Guttenberg rule .
In the 1930s Niederotterbach was added to the Bergzabern district. With the territorial reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, which began in the second half of the 1960s, Niederotterbach was incorporated into the newly created "Landau-Bad Bergzabern" district on June 7, 1969, together with most of the communities in the Bergzabern district, which in turn became part of January 1, 1978 was renamed "District of Southern Wine Route".

Crest Reason: It was founded in 1952 by the Mainz Ministry of the Interior approved and goes back to a court seal from the year 1599. The Palatine Lion and the Wittelsbach diamonds recall the former membership of Pfalz-Zweibrücken and the otter symbolizes speaking the place name. |
