Oberschlettenbach is a municipality in the southern Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate , within which it is the smallest municipality in terms of population. It belongs to the Bad Bergzabern community .

location
The place Oberschlettenbach is a forest community and is located in Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the adjoining northern part of the Vosges are also called, in the middle of the Dahner Felsenland , which in turn belongs to the Dahn-Annweiler Felsenland . Oberschlettenbach to additionally include the residential places Bühlhof the west and Hahnenhof are Osten.Nachbargemeinden - clockwise - Schwanheim , Darstein , Vorderweidenthal and Busenberg .
Elevations and waters
The Erlenbach flows through the municipal area in a north-south direction and takes in the Kleisterbach from the right . At the district triangle to Busenberg and Vorderweidenthal is the 447.6 m high Puhlstein with its Buhlstein pillars , on the border to Busenberg the Löffelsberg ( 445 m ) and on the border to Schwanheim the Haselberg .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1313 as Slethebach . He belonged to the Lindelbrunn rule and thus to the sphere of influence of the Leininger .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Oberschlettenbach was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was the seat of its own mairie , which at the time also included Darstein, Dimbach and Vorderweidenthal. In 1815 the community had a total of 202 inhabitants. In the same year, Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Ober-Schlettenbach belonged - as it was spelled at the time - to the Land Commissioner Bergzabern ; from this the district office Bergzabern emerged.
From 1939 the place was part of the Bergzabern district . After the Second World War , Oberschlettenbach became part of the Palatinate government district of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . 1972 Oberschlettenbach was assigned to the also newly formed community of Bad Bergzabern .
religion
The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer and are subordinate to the Landau deanery , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate . At the end of 2013, 50.7 percent of the population were Protestant and 14.2 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.
politics
In federal elections, the community has been part of the Südpfalz constituency since 1965 (until 1983: Landau constituency ) , before that until 1961 it was part of the Zweibrücken constituency . In state elections, Vorderweidenthal has been part of the Südliche Weinstrasse constituency since 1991 .
Municipal council
The council in Oberschlettenbach consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Christian Burkhart became the local mayor of Oberschlettenbach on June 22, 2016, after having been the first alderman since 2015. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 87.95 percent. His predecessor Peter Vollmöller, elected by the council in July 2014, resigned from office on September 7, 2015 due to his departure from the community.
In the previous electoral term, the mayor, who had been in office since 2004 , Walter Hunsicker, resigned in 2012. Then three attempts to choose a successor by primary election failed. At the beginning of 2014, the local council elected Karl Walter as local mayor, who had previously been in charge of official affairs as an alderman. Walter did not run again in the 2014 local elections .

A partnership has been maintained with Geiswiller in Alsace , part of the municipality of Geiswiller-Zœbersdorf , since 1993 .

Cultural monuments
The town center is designated as a monument zone . In addition, there are a total of eleven individual objects that are under monument protection .
nature
The community is located in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park , which in turn belongs to the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve . The only natural monument on site is the Rödelstein . In addition, the place is part of the climbing area Südpfalz and belongs there to the Vorderweidenthaler area .
Regular events
The annual Kerwe takes place regularly on the first weekend in September.

Due to the geographic conditions, the forest and timber industry dominated the area for centuries. The local forest areas that are part of the Annweiler Forest are subordinate to the Annweiler Forestry Office .

Oberschlettenbach is connected to the local transport network via the bus line 525 of the Rhein-Neckar transport association, which leads to Bad Bergzabern and Annweiler am Trifels. From May to October there is also bus line 532, which is primarily used for excursions. The closest train station is Bad Bergzabern .
The state road 490 leads past the residential area Hahnenhof on the eastern edge of the village and connects it with Niederschlettenbach and Annweiler am Trifels . From this the Kreisstraße 9 branches off , which leads into the town center.
tourism
The so-called “ Klingbach Cycle Path ” runs right through the settlement area , which starts in Dahn and leads via Klingenmünster to Hördt and a hiking path marked with a yellow-red bar that connects to the Wellbachtal and Rülzheim . A hiking trail, marked with a blue-yellow bar , leads through the west of the district and runs from Lauterecken to Sankt Germanshof . The place is also a stop for Tour 13 of the Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park , which starts in Dahn.
