It was largely replaced with effect from January 19, 1972 by the Works Constitution Act of January 15, 1972 and otherwise under the 2nd Act to Simplify the Election of Employee Representatives on the Supervisory Board, with effect from July 1, 2004, by the One-Third Participation Act of May 18, 2004 .

The WCA 1952 governed both the company participation by the organs of workers' representation, particularly by the council , as well as questions of co-determination by the third participation of employees in the supervisory boards of joint stock companies , limited partnerships , limited liability companies , cooperatives and mutuals Mutuality with up to 2000 employees.
