Roschbach is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Edenkoben , within which it is the seventh smallest local community in terms of population.
geography
The municipality is located six kilometers south of Edenkoben between the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve and the Rhine in the Weinstrasse region . The Bruchbach , which is also called Kaltenbach , runs through the middle of the settlement area in a west-east direction . The community included two exclaves in the Palatinate Forest , which they received in the course of the second Haingeraide . The Eußerbach rises in one of them , but leaves it after a few meters.
Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Edesheim , Knöringen , Walsheim , Flemlingen and Hainfeld .
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 769 in a deed of donation from the Franconian noble Marzolf to the Lorsch monastery . Around 1765 Roschbach belonged to the Speyer Monastery and was subordinate to the Edesheim Office . Subsequently, the community belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until the end of the 18th century .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Roschbach was incorporated into the canton of Edenkoben and was subordinate to the Mairie Burrweiler . In 1815 the place had a total of 420 inhabitants. In the same year it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 the community belonged to the Landau Landau commissioner ; from this the district office of Landau emerged.
From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate . After the Second World War , Roschbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . 1972 Roschbach was assigned to the also newly formed community of Edenkoben .

In 2013, 68.4 percent of the population were Catholic and 15.3 percent Protestant. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.

Municipal council
The local council in Roschbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman. In the 2009 election, the council members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.

mayor
Albert Birkmeyer became mayor of Roschbach in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 87.69%. He was first elected on September 7, 2014 in a repeat election. This had become necessary because his predecessor Josef Derichs narrowly missed the necessary majority in the regular municipal elections in 2014 with a tie (218 yes to 218 no).

economy
Roschbach is a wine-growing place and as such part of the Palatinate wine-growing region . The Rosenkranzel vineyard is located on site .
traffic
District roads 54 and 56 run through the Roschbach settlement area . In the east of the district, away from the buildings, Landesstrasse 516 leads in a north-south direction . The community is connected to the local transport network via bus line 500 in the Rhein-Neckar transport association.
