Freimersheim (Pfalz) is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Edenkoben .
geography
The community is located eight kilometers southeast of Edenkoben . The Freimersheimermühle , Kaltenbacherhof and Salmhof residential areas also belong to Freimersheim.
history
Freimersheim was first mentioned in a document in 771 in a deed of donation from the Lorsch Monastery . In 1423 the place, which until then was richly owned, was transferred to the Junker Hans von Weingarten. 1685 dying family of Weingarten from the last rung is buried in the church Freimersheimer in the choir, and the estate of the family of the cathedral chapter Speyer sold.
During the Palatinate War of Succession , Freimersheim was completely destroyed and temporarily abandoned by its residents. With the Peace of Lunéville in 1801, the village passed to the French Republic . Freimersheim became part of the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to Mairie Böbingen in the canton of Edenkoben . As a result of the Congress of Vienna (1815) Freimersheim first came to Austria and in 1816 to the Kingdom of Bavaria on the basis of an exchange agreement . From 1818 the community Freimersheim was part of the Landau Landau in the Bavarian Rhine District, later assigned to the Landau district office, from which the Landau district emerged in 1938 . After both world wars the village was under French occupation . Since 1978 the community has belonged to the Southern Wine Route district .
In 1998 Freimersheim was the district winner in the competition Our village should become more beautiful .

- In 2013, 52.3 percent of the population were Protestant and 17.1 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.
- The local Catholic Church of St. Corpus Christi is a branch church of the parish church of St. Sebastian Böbingen (Pfalz) .

Municipal council
The local council in Freimersheim (Palatinate) consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Daniel Salm became the local mayor of Freimersheim in 2009. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 82.07%. His predecessor was Gerhard Salm.

Events
- Since 2015 the Dorfjugend Freimersheim eV has been organizing a May festival on May 1st on the village square.
- On the second Sunday after Corpus Christi , the Kerwe takes place in Freimersheim from Friday to Tuesday .
societies
In Freimersheim there is not only a sports club (FSV Freimersheim) but also the choral society MGV 1875 Mixed Choir e. V. with its divisions children's choir and mixed choir, male choir project and the theater troupe affiliated with the association. Theatrical performances are held every year starting around Easter on four consecutive weekends.
There is also a support association for the youth of Freimersheim (Dorfjugend Freimersheim eV), which supports the youth rooms with financial means.

The youth from Freimersheim meet at the glass house in summer. This has only been used since the site trailer was abolished due to vandalism. In addition, there has been a youth room since September 2014, which is managed by the management team of the Dorfjugend Freimersheim and is financially supported by the Dorfjugend Freimersheim eV association.

The closest train stations are Edesheim and Edenkoben on the Palatinate Maximiliansbahn Neustadt – Wissembourg.

Honorary citizen
- Martin Salm (†), local mayor from 1925 to 1939, was made an honorary citizen in 1952.
- Kurt Rummel (†), local mayor from 1964 to 1979, chairman of the Freimersheimer Sportvereinigung from its foundation in 1961 to 1991, received the award in 2000.
- Rudolf Tischer (* 1934/35), local mayor 1979 to 1994, made an honorary citizen on March 7, 2020.
- Gerhard Salm (* 1939/1940), local mayor from 1994 to 2009, was also honored for his services on March 7, 2020.
