Wernersberg is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Annweiler am Trifels , within which it is the fourth largest community in terms of population after the city of Annweiler am Trifels , Albersweiler and Gossersweiler-Stein .

geography

The place is in Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the adjoining northern part of the Vosges are also called, between Annweiler am Trifels and Bad Bergzabern. Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Rinnthal , Annweiler am Trifels , Völkersweiler , Lug (Pfalz) and Spirkelbach .

The landmark of the Palatinate community is the Geierstein. The view from the 387 meter high Wachtfels and the Round Hut offer a panoramic view of the immediate surroundings. In addition, the western flank of the Ebersberg lies within the boundaries of the local community. Wernersberg also includes the bone mill to the east of the actual town and the Kaisermühle to the west of the area .

The most important body of water within the district is the Rimbach , which runs around one kilometer west of the settlement area. The Mitterbach rises to the south-east of the development and, after two kilometers from the right, flows into the Ebersbach , which shortly before takes on the Kleiner Ebersbach .

history

Wernersberg was first mentioned in a document dated July 1, 1283 in the spelling "Wernheresberge". Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to Pfalz-Zweibrücken .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Wernersberg was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was subordinate to the Mairie Annweiler . In 1815 the community had a total of 397 inhabitants. In the same year, Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Sankt Martin belonged to the Land Commissioner Bergzabern ; from this the district office Bergzabern emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the Bergzabern district . After the Second World War , Wernersberg became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . In 1972 Wernersberg was assigned to the also newly formed community of Annweiler am Trifels .

Municipal council

The council in Wernersberg consists of 16 council members, who in the local elections on 26 May 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman. In the 2009 election, the council members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.

Dominik Rubiano Soriano became mayor of Waldhambach in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with 78.89% of the votes. His predecessor Helmut Heller had held the office for 15 years.

There are a total of 16 objects on site that are listed . Locals often refer to the place as the “cuckoo's nest”.

Infrastructure

Wernersberg is connected to the local transport network via the bus line 525 of the Rhein-Neckar transport association, which leads to Bad Bergzabern and Annweiler am Trifels. Bundesstraße 48 runs through the east of the district . The closest train station is Annweiler am Trifels . Many marked hiking, cycling and riding trails are also marked on the information board in the village center.
