history

In 1136 the first documentary mention of track cells as "Glizencella" followed, in 1304 the first of Gleishorbach as "Horbach". The place name Gleiszellen indicates a connection with the Blidenfeld monastery . Excavations show that there was a "branch" of the monastery above the village, on the Kirchberg.

From the end of the 18th century, both places were part of the French Republic , then part of the Napoleonic Empire until 1815 , and incorporated into the canton of Bergzabern in the department of the Lower Rhine . In 1815 they were added to Austria . Just one year later, like the entire Palatinate , they moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 “Gleis-Horbach and Gleis-cells” belonged to the Bergzabern Land Commissioner ; The Bergzabern district office emerged from this .

In 1939 Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach was incorporated into the Bergzabern district. After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . 1972 Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach was assigned to the also newly formed community of Bad Bergzabern .

economy

Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach is a winegrowing village and as such part of the Palatinate wine-growing region . The individual layers Frühmess and Kirchberg exist on site . The place is above all a stronghold of muscatel cultivation in Germany . About 12 hectares of Gelber Muskateller , this corresponds to about 7% of the German vineyards planted with Muscatel, are concentrated in the locations of the municipality. For this reason, a corresponding Muscatel circular hiking trail was set up in 2007, which begins south of the town at the Catholic Church dedicated to Dionysius of Paris .

The gastronomy of Gleiszell and the traditional wine festivals in the Winzergasse are an important tourism and economic factor .

The German Wine Route , which is identical to Bundesstrasse 48 in this area , runs east of the development. Glelszellen-Gleishorbach is connected to the local transport network via the 540 bus in the Rhein-Neckar transport association. The closest train station is the one in Bad Bergzabern .

The community is also on the German Wine Route and the Palatinate Almond Trail .
