Vorderweidenthal is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Bergzabern community .

geography

location

The municipality is located in Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the adjoining northern part of the Vosges are also called, in the middle of the Dahner Felsenland , which in turn belongs to the Dahn-Annweiler Felsenland .

Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Darstein , Gossersweiler-Stein , Silz , Birkenhördt , Erlenbach bei Dahn , Busenberg and Oberschlettenbach . The residential areas Bethof, Lindelbrunn and Sägmühle also belong to Vorderweidenthal .

In the northeastern municipality of the 437.6  m above sea level. NHN high Schloßberg and further south of 320.2  m above sea level. NHN high Eichenbühl . The 447.6  m high Puhlstein is located on the boundary of Busenberg and Oberschlettenbach .

Waters

The Erlenbach grazes the western edge of the settlement. The Portzbach rises in the eastern part of the district and then flows in a north-south direction beyond the buildings; its left tributary Hirschbach partially forms the boundary to Erlenbach bei Dahn and Birkenhördt. The Sandwiesenbach rises in the far east and crosses the border to Silz a short time later. Thus the watershed between Lauter and Michelsbach runs through the middle of the municipality .

history

The first documentary mention of the village comes from the year 1313. Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the princes of Leiningen-Dürkheim .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Vorderweidenthal was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was subordinate to the Mairie Oberschlettenbach . In the same year, Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862, Vorder-Weidenthal belonged - as it was spelled at the time - to the Land Commissioner Bergzabern ; from this the district office Bergzabern emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the Bergzabern district . After the Second World War , Vorderweidenthal became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . In 1972, Vorderweidenthal was assigned to the also newly formed community of Bad Bergzabern .

Protestant Church

The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer and are subordinate to the Landau deanery , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate . At the end of 2013, 56.6 percent of the population were Protestant and 26.3 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. On June 16, 2020, the Evangelical Church in Vorderweidenthal was baptized as a Church of Peace. The neighboring village of Lauterschwan also belongs to the Protestant parish of Vorderweidenthal .

There was once a local Jewish community whose members were buried in Busenberg . In 1824 there were 78 people of the Jewish faith in Vorderweidenthal.

In federal elections, the community has been part of the Südpfalz constituency since 1965 (until 1983: Landau constituency ) , before that until 1961 it was part of the Zweibrücken constituency . In state elections, Vorderweidenthal has been part of the Südliche Weinstrasse constituency since 1991 .

Municipal council

The council in Vorderweidenthal consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Volker Christmann (SPD) became the local mayor of Vorderweidenthal in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 72.82% of the votes. His predecessor Artur Helfer had held the office for 25 years.

Lindelbrunn castle ruins

The cemetery and the local parish at 440  m above sea level. The ruins of Lindelbrunn Castle located at the NHN are designated as monument zones; there are also a total of six individual monuments.

Rödelstein on the boundary of Oberschlettenbach

The municipality is located in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park , which in turn belongs to the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord Biosphere Reserve . To the north of the development on the boundary to Oberschlettenbach is the Rödelstein , which is designated as a natural monument . In addition, the place is part of the climbing area Südpfalz and belongs there to the Vorderweidenthaler area .

Knight stones

The knight stones 26 and 299 are located in the district of Vorderweidenthal . The former is located in the eastern municipality and is called An der Bildeiche , it refers to an old wayside shrine. The latter is located at the southern foot of the Rothelstein and contains the inscription Rödelstein-path erb. V. Palatinate. Regular events

The annual Kerwe always took place on the third weekend in October until 2018. Since the baptism of the Evangelical Church as a Church of Peace, the Kerwe has been celebrated on the weekend of the third Sunday in June.

The SV Blau-Weiß Vorderweidenthal 1927 e. V. regularly organizes a chicken evening on the first Friday of every month and also once a year a children's game festival and a Moto Guzzi meeting. The St. Florian Verein Vorderweidenthal e. V. organizes an annual Oktoberfest at the fire station, which is frequented by guests from all over the region.

Due to the geographic conditions, the forest and timber industry dominated the area for centuries. The local forest areas that are part of the Annweiler Forest are subordinate to the Annweiler Forestry Office .

Vorderweidenthal is connected to the local transport network via bus line 525 of the Rhein-Neckar transport association, which leads to Bad Bergzabern and Annweiler am Trifels, and via bus line 545 from Bad Bergzabern to Dahn .

The state road 490 leads through the village and connects it with Niederschlettenbach and Annweiler am Trifels . The state road 493 that branches off from it leads to neighboring Silz; From here, Kreisstraße 10 leads to the Lindelbrunn residential area and Kreisstraße 11 to Birkenhördt. The federal highway 427 also touches the southern border of the municipality.

Cramerhaus

The so-called “ Klingbach Cycle Path ” runs through the Vorderweidenthal and starts in Dahn and leads via Klingenmünster to Hördt . The place is also a stop for Tour 9 of the Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park . Not far from Lindelbrunn Castle is the Cramerhaus, named after Heinrich Cramer , a hiking house that was operated directly by the Palatinate Forest Association and sold in 2002.

The Staudernheim-Soultz-sous-Forêts long-distance hiking trail, marked with a blue bar, and the August-Becker hiking trail , which is marked with a green triangle on a white background , run through the village itself .

There are three hiking trails around the Lindelbrunn Castle area, one of which is marked with a yellow-red bar and runs from Wellbachtal to Rülzheim , another, which is marked with a red dot and runs from Hertlingshausen to Wingen , and a hiking trail, marked with a blue cross that runs from Niederhausen to Sankt Germanshof . Another hiking trail, marked with a blue-yellow bar , runs through the west of the district and also runs from Lauterecken to Sankt Germanshof. The Rödelstein path leads to the rock of the same name.
