Schweighofen ( Pfälz . Schwäächhoffe ) is a municipality in the southern Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Bergzabern community .
geography
The community is located between the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve and the Rhine directly on the border with France. Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Oberotterbach , Kapsweyer , Weißenburg and Schweigen-Rechtenbach .
Schweighofen also includes the Haftelhof , Neuhof and Windhof residential areas .
history
Schweighofen is located in the Mundat area, which Pippin the Younger gave to the Weissenburg monastery around 760 . As a result, the monastery founded many farms and hamlets on cleared land, including Schweighofen. The place was first mentioned in 1311. For many centuries it and Altenstadt , which is now part of Weißenburg, belonged together.

At the end of 2013, 66.1 percent of the population were Catholic and 19.6 percent Protestant . The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Schweighofen consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Sarah Agné became the local mayor of Schweighofen on August 16, 2018. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was confirmed in her office for another five years with 84.20% of the vote. Her predecessors were Rüdiger Jacobsen, who died in office in 2018, and previously Gerhard Pautler until the 2014 local elections.

Economy and Infrastructure
The community is connected to the road network via the state road 546. A separate train stop on the Winden – Weißenburg (Alsace) route guarantees public transport with the Bad Bergzabern – Schweighofen bus line .
The small Schweighofen airfield is located south of the village .
