About this picture

geography

Rohrbach is located in the Upper Rhine Plain in the southern Palatinate between Landau in the Palatinate (approx. 8 km away) and Karlsruhe (approx. 30 km away). The Lettenhof residential area also belongs to the community . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Insheim , Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz , Steinweiler , Billigheim-Ingenheim and Impflingen .

The Klingbach is to a large extent the Gemarkungsgrenze to Steinweiler. The Kaiserbach brushes the southwestern edge of the settlement before it flows into the Klingbach from the left. The Quodbach , also a left tributary of the Klingbach, forms the border with Insheim in the east. Rohrbach is located in the conservation area "Klingbachtal-Kaiserbachtal".

history

The place is first documented in 693. The village was originally free of the empire , but since the 14th century the empire pledged it to the Electoral Palatinate .

Until the end of the 18th century it belonged to the Electoral Palatinate office Billigheim , which was subordinate to the Oberamt Germersheim . A battle of the French Revolutionary War took place near Rohrbach on June 29, 1793 . The Austrian troops under Field Marshal Dagobert Sigmund von Wurmser fought back the French army and thus thwarted the relief of Mainz .

From 1792 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Rohrbach was initially incorporated into the Canton Billigheim and after its dissolution from 1802 into the Canton Bergzabern . In 1815 the place Austria was added. Just one year later, the place changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 the place was part of the Landkommissariat Bergzabern , which was then converted into a district office.

In 1939 the place was incorporated into the Bergzabern district. After the Second World War , Rohrbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the community on June 7, 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . In 1972 the community was assigned to the also newly formed Verbandsgemeinde Herxheim .

coat of arms

The Landesarchiv Speyer (Mr. Debus) describes the Rohrbach coat of arms in 1977 as follows:

Rohrbach coat of arms
Blazon : "Under the black head of the shield, a golden shieldwith three black tipson the left flank, on the golden background of which a black mark in the form of an" 8 ", the upper circle of which is not completely closed."
Justification of the coat of arms: Until 1977, Rohrbach did not have an approved municipal coat of arms , but it did have an old court seal from 1698, which showed the ban mark in the oval shield. The colors black and gold are reminiscent of the former belonging to the Electoral Palatinate . The black head of the shield and the three spikes on the sides were taken from the coat of arms of the old gentry family "von Rohrbach", which, however, was on a silver instead of a gold background. The knight dynasty was of considerable importance for the place from the 13th to the 15th century.
