Knöringen is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Landau-Land association, which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Landau in the Palatinate .
Geographical location
The community is a wine place . Neighboring communities are Walsheim and Essingen .
history
Knöringen is first mentioned in a document in 775 in the Lorsch Codex as Cnoringen . The place name goes back to the name of the founder Knoro. Until 1468 half of the village belonged to the Lords of Enggaß.

Municipal council
The council in Knöringen consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Dieter Ditsch became the local mayor of Knöringen on July 21, 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 89.49%. His predecessor Klaus Pabst did not run again in 2014 after ten years in office. Werner Metz (CDU) was previously mayor from 1984 to 2004.

Justification of the coat of arms: Knöringen has had this coat of arms since 1957. The hands of the coat of arms come from the coat of arms of the local knight family von Knöringen and the lance reminds of the patron St. Michael of the Abbey of Klingenmünster , who owned rights in Knöringen. |
Partner municipality
Since 1978 there has been a partnership with the municipality of Burgau in the Swabian district of Günzburg ( Bavaria ) with its districts of Ober- and Unterknöringen .
Culture and sights
Sports
In Knöringen there is the resident sports club SVK (Sportverein Knöringen). This has a football department and the sports center is open to guests and locals every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Women's gymnastics take place there every Monday.

Economy and infrastructure: train station
When the Neustadt – Wissembourg railway line was built in 1855, the Knöringen station was also built on the eastern edge of the municipality, later renamed Knöringen-Essingen station .
Personalities: honorary citizens
- Werner Metz (born February 9, 1947), mayor from 1984 to 2004. From 1989 to 2009, Metz was a member of the Landau-Land municipal council. The honorary citizenship certificate was awarded at the New Year's reception of the community on January 15, 2017.
