Barbelroth is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Bergzabern community .
geography
The rural residential community is located around five kilometers east of Bad Bergzabern in the direction of Karlsruhe between the Palatinate Forest biosphere reserve and the Rhine . Main branches of business are viticulture and tobacco growing.
The Neumühle residential area also belongs to Barbelroth .
history
Barbelroth was first mentioned in a document on April 6, 1179 as the property of the Weissenburg Monastery . An old form of the place name is Berwardsroth.
Until the end of the 18th century Barbelroth belonged to the Oberamt Bergzabern in the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken .
religion
On December 31, 2012, 56.3 percent of the population were Protestant and 27.1 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.

Municipal council
The local council in Barbelroth consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
mayor
Roland Nuss (independent) became the local mayor of Barbelroth on July 16, 2019. Since there was no candidate for the direct election on May 26, 2019, the upcoming election of the mayor was carried out by the council in accordance with the municipal regulations. The majority of them opted for Nuss, which was then chosen for five years. His predecessor Werner Dietrich (non-party) had held the office since 2008.
