Hochstadt is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . In the local dialect the place is called Houschd , its inhabitants Houschder . Hochstadt belongs to the community of Offenbach an der Queich .

location
Hochstadt is located at about 135 m altitude in the southern part of the Rhine valley between Landau in the west and Speyer in the east.
Community structure
The community consists of the two districts Niederhochstadt and Oberhochstadt . Oberhochstadt also includes the Hochstadt station and Fuchsmühle residential areas .
Waters
The Hainbach , a right tributary of the Woogbach , which in turn is a left branch of the Rhine- tributary Speyerbach , flows through the community from southwest to northeast .
history
On the occasion of the donation of a meadow in Hohunstater marca (in the Hochstadt district) in pago spirensi (in Speyergau) by an Alaaolf to the Lorsch monastery , Hochstadt was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in 776 .
On June 7, 1969, the previously independent municipalities Niederhochstadt (then 1,467 inhabitants) and Oberhochstadt (744 inhabitants) were dissolved as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform and merged to form the new local municipality Hochstadt (Palatinate). In 1972 it was assigned to the Offenbach an der Queich community , which has its administrative headquarters in the Offenbach community of the same name .

At the end of 2013, 51.9% of the population were Protestant and 27% Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.

Municipal council
The municipal council in Hochstadt consists of 16 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Local mayor
Timo Reuther (CDU) became local mayor of Hochstadt on September 26, 2018. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with 88.40% of the vote. His predecessor Otto Paul (CDU), local mayor since 2004, resigned in 2018 for health reasons.

Economy and Infrastructure
economy
Agriculture and viticulture have shaped the place for centuries . Several companies produce quality and predicate wines on over 330 hectares of vineyards .
Vegetables , grain and sugar beet cultivation begins at the foothills of the Lössriedel , which runs from the west towards the Rhine plain . A fruit and vegetable wholesaler mainly sells products from the Palatinate region to food retailers and restaurants at home and abroad.
Another company deals with laser cutting technology and powder coating .
traffic
The federal road 272 (Landau – Speyer) south of the residential development provides the connection to the national road traffic. The Autobahn 65 ( Ludwigshafen - Karlsruhe ) runs in the west, the federal highway 9 (Speyer - Germersheim ) in the east. Until 1984 there was a train station in the SPNV (Germersheim – Landau) . Today, a handcar is operated on the disused route from time to time . The bus connection is made with line 590 .
