Göcklingen ( Pfälz. Gecklinge ) is a municipality in the district of Southern Wine Route in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Landau-Land community .
geography
The wine village is in the Palatinate on the Kaiserbach. The Kaiserbach runs through the middle of the settlement area in a west-east direction . The Kapellenhof residential area also belongs to the community .
Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Ilbesheim near Landau in the Palatinate , Landau in the Palatinate , Heuchelheim-Klingen , Klingenmünster , Waldhambach (Palatinate) and Eschbach .
history
It was first mentioned in a document in 1254. Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Landeck sub-office , which was jointly owned by the Electoral Palatinate and the Speyer Monastery.
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Göcklingen was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was the seat of its own mairie , which also included Impflingen . In 1815 the place had a total of 1,100 inhabitants. After the Congress of Vienna , which took place in the same year, the place was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . At the same time, Göcklingen moved to the canton of Landau . From 1818 to 1862, the place was part of the Landau Landau , which was then converted into a district office.
From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate . After the Second World War , Göcklingen became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the community on June 7, 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . From the middle of the 19th century a synagogue existed for the local Jewish residents . It was already profaned towards the end of the century; the building still exists. The local Jews were buried in Annweiler . At the end of 2013, 52.4 percent of the population were Catholic and 33.7 percent Protestant. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.

The council in Göcklingen consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the volunteer local mayor as chairman.

Manuela Laub became local mayor of Göcklingen on August 13, 2019. In the runoff election on June 16, 2019, it prevailed with a share of the vote of 53.58%, after none of the original three applicants had achieved a sufficient majority in the direct election on May 26, 2019. Laub's predecessors were Fritz Garrecht (term 2004–2019) and Günther Löhlein (1989–2004).

Culture
Buildings
The Catholic Church of St. Laurentius was built in 1787 and has baroque altars. Its three altar leaves were subsequently changed in the 19th century. The ones still preserved today are from Claudius Schraudolph the Elder , a famous Nazarene who painted the Speyer Cathedral with his brother Johann von Schraudolph . The main picture with the martyrdom of St. Laurentius was donated in 1883 by Franziska Reither, a sister of Bishop Konrad Reither .
The cemetery is designated as a monument zone; In addition, there are a total of 18 individual objects that are listed , including the former synagogue .

Honorary citizen
- Aloys Schirmer (1911–1981), from Nussbach , became a pastor in Göcklingen in 1964, wrote an extensive local history and was made an honorary citizen of the place.
- Hermann Frech (* 1928), school principal, 20 years councilor and 45 years honorary church musician, was honored by his home parish for his diverse services.
- Günter Löhlein (* 1936), Vice Rector, Mayor from 1989 to 2004, after having been a member of the local council since 1974. In May 2016 he was made an honorary citizen of the community in recognition of his life's work.
