The Verbandsgemeinde Landau-Land came into force on April 22nd, 1972 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate territorial and administrative reform on the basis of the “Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate” of March 1, 1972 1972, newly formed.

Torsten Blank (SPD) has been the mayor of the Landau-Land community since 2011. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for a further eight years with 67.6% of the votes.

The coat of arms description reads: "In a shield border divided by silver and green under a blue shield head, in it a floating silver cross, on the right by a silver mill wheel, on the left by a silver chestnut with two silver leaves, a green bunch of grapes divided into gold by pewter cut."

The coat of arms was approved by the Neustadt district government in 1985 . The grape symbolizes the viticulture that characterizes the community.
