The Verbandsgemeinde Herxheim is an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional authority in the district of Südliche Weinstrasse in Rhineland-Palatinate . The Verbandsgemeinde belong to four independent local communities , the administrative seat is in the eponymous community Herxheim .

The Verbandsgemeinde Herxheim became part of the Rhineland-Palatinate territorial and administrative reform on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of March 1, 1972, came into force on April 22, 1972, newly formed.

Association municipal council
The Verbandsgemeinderat Herxheim consists of 32 honorary council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the mayor as chairwoman. Up to the previous electoral term, there were 28 council members.

Elmar Weiller ( CDU ) was mayor of the Herxheim community from 1973 until his retirement in 2007. His successor was Franz-Ludwig Trauth (independent, later CDU) on September 1, 2007, who had prevailed in the runoff election on May 20, 2007 with 55.2 percent against Georg Kern (CDU). On April 26, 2015, Hedwig Braun was elected (independent) as the new mayor.

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: “In a shield border of blue and gold, four-fold divided by silver and blue, a silver lily at the top right , with two six-pointed silver stars at the top, a black mark in the form of an 8 at the top left, the upper circle of which is not quite is closed, at the bottom right a black ring, in the middle of which a floating six-pointed black star, at the bottom right a slanting to the right, inwardly curved at the top end with a crosspiece provided with a silver rod, crossed with a silver fish. "
The coat of arms was approved by the Neustadt district government in 1977 and contains the main elements of the four local parishes as well as Hayna , who was still independent when the association was established.
The railway line from Landau to Wissembourg or Karlsruhe has two stops within the association: Insheim and Rohrbach . Herxheim itself was connected to the railway network from 1898 to 1994 via a branch line at Landau main station.
