Hayna has been part of Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz since 1974 . It is about 2 km south of Herxheim.

In 1272 Hayna was first mentioned in a document under the name Hegnehe.

Hayna was incorporated into Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz on March 17, 1974. This involved a change from the district of Germersheim to the then district of Landau-Bad Bergzabern (today the district of Südliche Weinstrasse ).

Rita Axtmann ( CDU ) was the mayor from 2004 to 2019 . In the local elections on May 25, 2014 , she was re-elected for the second time without an opposing candidate with 80.56% approval.

On May 26, 2019, Markus Dudenhöffer (CDU) was elected mayor with 75.14% without an opposing candidate.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms corresponds to a court seal from 1721, handed down from 1733 (LA Speyer, E4 No. 883 fol. 2). In it, the stars are signs of jurisdiction, the crossed sticks, on the other hand, are to be interpreted as shepherds' wands and indicate St. Wendelin, the patron saint of the parish church in Hatzenbühl, to whom the church in Hayna was assigned as a branch when it was built in 1719.

Hayna is connected to the local transport network via bus lines 548 and 554. The former connects the two railway stations Kandel and Rheinzabern with each other, the latter connects the Kandel railway station with Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz .
