Dernbach is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Annweiler am Trifels .

Dernbach is located in the Palatinate within the Palatinate Forest . It is located in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Ramberg (Pfalz) , Flemlingen (exclave), Böchingen (exclave), Frankweiler , Albersweiler , Eusserthal , Gleisweiler (exclave) and Böchingen (exclave). The place is also part of the southern Palatinate climbing area .

Elevations and waters

The place is traversed in a north-south direction by the stream of the same name , the left source stream of the Queich tributary Eisbach . On site, it records the Pfalzbach from the right and the Leinbach and Sandbach from the left . Striking elevations on the district are the southwest flank of the Harzofenberg (556 m) and the Hubberg (383 m).

history

Dernbach was first mentioned on April 14, 1189 in a document issued by Emperor Barbarossa in Hagenau. In 1232 King Heinrich VII allowed the knight Heinrich von Scharfenberg to build Neuscharfeneck Castle above the village. Until the end of the 18th century, the community belonged to the Scharfeneck rule of the Prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Dörrenbach - as the place name at the time - was in the canton of Annweiler in the Mont Tonnerre department and was subordinate to the Mairie Albersweiler . The French established a modern administration that served as a model for local government. In 1815 the community had a total of 350 inhabitants. In the same year, the place was added to Austria due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 "Dörnbach" belonged to the Land Commissioner Bergzabern ; from this the district office Bergzabern emerged.

In 1906 the place was connected to the water network through the construction of a water pipe and electrified in 1921. From 1939 Dernbach was part of the Bergzabern district . After the Second World War , the place became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform moved Dernbach on June 7, 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . In 1972 the community was assigned to the also newly formed association community Annweiler am Trifels . In 1979 and 1984 Dernbach was the state winner of the competition Our village should become more beautiful .

The council in Dernbach consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Harald Jentzer became the local mayor of Dernbach in 2009. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of 79.26% of the votes. Jentzer's predecessor Edwin Gensheimer had held the office for 15 years.

There are a total of six objects on site that are under monument protection , including the Catholic Church “ Holy Trinity ”, which is located in Kirchstrasse and the Protestant “ Gustav Adolf Church ” located in the local main street . The other objects are a forester's house, a war memorial, a schoolhouse and an atonement cross.

In addition, the Wandergasthof Dernbacher Haus is located east of the settlement area .
