Franz Schöberl (architect)
Franz Seraph Schöberl (born December 17, 1845 in Turnau , † July 23, 1908 in Speyer ) was an Austro-German architect of historicism .
Life
Schöberl, son of the surgeon Carl Schöberl, studied architecture in Vienna and Graz . In 1874 he moved to Speyer. In the Kingdom of Bavaria belonging Palatinate he was an architect of numerous churches. As a Catholic who was married to a Protestant woman, he built churches of both denominations. He made use of the range of historicism. In his early work he transferred the Maximilian style , an architectural style that was pronounced under King Maximilian II , to the Palatinate. Later he used the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance , but also elements of the Neo- Romanesque and the New Baroque . Here he was influenced by Johannes Otzen . In Speyer he also built numerous residential houses and public buildings.
Schöberl was married to Johanna Disqué since 1874.
The city of Speyer named a street after Schöberl.
