history

The town of Turnau appears for the first time in a document from 1268. The findings on the church wall show that the Catholic parish church “St. Jacob the Elder ”was created at least in the 14th century. Only after several centuries did the church become independent. Since 1959 the parish of Turnau has been subordinate to the diocesan bishop of Graz-Seckau.

As part of the municipal structural reform of Styria 2010–2015 , the municipality remained independent, previously a merger with the safely merging Aflenz Kurort and Aflenz Land was also considered. A further merger with St. Ilgen / Etmißl / Thörl (6-solution) was also under discussion .
