Stefan Hofer (born December 14, 1986 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian politician of the SPÖ . He was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament on June 16, 2015 . In addition, he is mayor of the market town of Turnau ( Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district ).

education

Hofer attended elementary school in Turnau and then the grammar school in Bruck an der Mur. He completed this in 2005 with the Matura . During his school days he also worked as a class representative.

After completing his military service at the Styrian Military Music Association , where he learned to play the saxophone , Hofer began studying journalism and corporate communication at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz . He completed this in 2010 with his diploma thesis on "The change in political communication using the example of the SPÖ".

Political career

During his studies, Hofer laid the foundation for his political career when he became a political assistant in the office of Deputy Governor Siegfried Stepwieser .

Hofer has been politically active in his home town of Turnau since 2009. After the local council election in 2010 , Hofer moved into the local council in April 2010 . On March 30, 2012 Hofer was elected Vice Mayor by the local council. At that time, he was the youngest Vice Mayor in Styria. He also took over the chairmanship of the local SPÖ.

In the 2015 municipal council elections , the SPÖ under his leadership narrowly missed an absolute majority with 48 percent. Nevertheless, this was enough for Hofer to be elected mayor at the constituent meeting of the municipal council on April 27, 2015 with the support of the FPÖ .

Hofer made the leap into state politics in the 2015 state elections . Despite the SPÖ's considerable losses, he was able to move into the state parliament, where he was sworn in as a member of parliament on June 16, 2015.
