Andreas Thürschweller

Andreas Thürschweller (born April 27, 1973 ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). He has been the mayor of Eibiswald since February 2, 2017 and has been a member of the Styrian state parliament since December 17, 2019 (18th legislative period) .

Life

education and profession

Andreas Thürschweller completed an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer after primary and secondary school , which he completed with the final apprenticeship examination. In 1992 he did his military service . He completed his training as an insurance broker in 2008 with the insurance broker examination. From 1998 to 2008 he worked for Wiener Städtische Versicherung as an insurance employee or insurance agent, from 2008 to December 31, 2018 he was an insurance broker and managing director of the insurance law firm A. Thürschweller & Partner.

From 2000 until the amalgamation of the municipality in the course of the Styrian municipal structural reform, Thürschweller belonged to the municipal council in Großradl , where he also acted as SPÖ local party chairman from 2005 to 2010. From 2015 to 2017 he was the second deputy mayor in Eibiswald , and since 2015 he has been the SPÖ local party deputy and executive local party chairman there. At the beginning of February 2017, he was elected mayor of Eibiswald in the municipal council as an SPÖ candidate to succeed Andreas Kremser (ÖVP) despite an absolute ÖVP majority (14 of 25 mandates). ÖVP candidate Johannes Eisner received eleven votes, while Andreas Thürschweller received 13. In September 2019, he became Vice President of the Association of War Victims and Disabled People (KOBV) Styria.

In the 2019 state elections , he ran in state electoral district 3 behind Michael Schickhofer and Bernadette Kerschler in third place on the list and 15th on the state list. On December 17, 2019 he was at the beginning of the XVIII. Legislative term as Member of the state parliament of Styria sworn in . After the 2020 municipal council election, in which the SPÖ won an absolute majority with 2526 votes and thus 18 out of 25 seats, he was confirmed as mayor of Eibiswald.
