Silvia Karelly

Silvia Karelly (born October 30, 1977 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Since January 2018 she has been the mayor of the municipality of Fischbach in Styria and since December 17, 2019 a member of the Styrian state parliament .

Life

After finishing elementary school in Fischbach and secondary school in Birkfeld, Silvia Karelly attended the federal high school (BORG) there, where she graduated in 1996 . She then began to study German and Italian as a teacher at the University of Graz . In 1995 she took over her parents' mountain farm , which she runs with her husband and three daughters as a sideline. In 2003 she joined the administrative service of the Fischbach community, two years later she became a registrar.

At the end of 2017, the Fischbacher ÖVP mayor Franz Doppelhofer resigned from his position. On January 26, 2018, she took over the office of mayor of Fischbach without having previously had a mandate in the local council. In the 2019 state elections , she ran on the 14th place on the state list and behind Hermann Schützenhöfer and Hubert Lang on the third place in the list in state electoral district 2 (Eastern Styria). On December 17, 2019 she was at the beginning of the XVIII. Legislative term as Member of the Landtag Styria sworn in , where it acts in the Austrian People's Party parliamentary club as a spokesperson for childcare and folk culture. Further focus areas are small-scale agriculture and the development of rural areas as well as the topics of family, training, health and care.
