Gerald Deutschmann (born September 8, 1958 in Zeltweg ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and independent architect. He has been a member of the Styrian State Parliament since November 2010 and the third President of the State Parliament since December 17, 2019 .

education and profession

Deutschmann attended elementary school in Zeltweg between 1964 and 1968 and switched to the Bundesrealgymnasium in Knittelfeld in 1968 . He graduated from high school in 1976 and did his military service from 1976, where he served in the Austrian Armed Forces until 1977 and trained as a militia officer. After the end of his military service, Deutschmann began studying civil engineering at the Graz University of Technology in 1977 , and in 1980 he switched to architecture at the Graz University of Technology. He graduated in 1985 with a degree in engineering.

From 1985 to 1986, Deutschmann worked in an architecture office in Leoben , and in 1986 he moved to an architecture office in Graz. In 1990 he became a member of the Chamber of Engineers for Styria and Carinthia and in the same year went into business for himself as a freelance architect in Graz. Between 1993 and 1997 he worked in a consortium with an architect and became the sole owner of the office in 1998. As an architect, Deutschmann designed residential buildings, residential complexes, company buildings and public buildings, including kindergartens, team quarters in a barracks, a waste material collection center and a public car park.

Politics and functions

Deutschmann was a local councilor in Haselsdorf-Tobelbad from 1995 to 2005 and was district party chairman of the FPÖ - Graz area between 2000 and 2006. He is a member of the district party leadership of the FPÖ Graz-Umgebung and ran for the state elections in 2010 . He was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament on November 9, 2010 and received the remaining mandate from the state list. He is the area spokesman for budget, housing, finance, building and spatial planning, defense spokesman and displaced persons within the FPÖ state parliament club.

After the state elections in 2019 , he followed at the beginning of the XVIII. Legislative period on December 17, 2019, after Gerhard Kurzmann as third state parliament president .
