Christoph Klauser

Christoph Klauser (born June 4, 1924 in Deutschlandsberg ; † October 11, 2009 ) was an Austrian state and local politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Klauser studied law at the University of Graz , obtained his doctorate and then worked as a lawyer .

From 1960 to 1972 he was mayor of Deutschlandsberg and until 1991 a member of the Styrian state government. Overall, he was active as a local politician in his hometown of Deutschlandsberg for 40 years.

He was from 1970 to 1991 a member of the 23 to 26 Styrian government under Friedrich Dutch ( ÖVP ) and Josef Krainer junior (ÖVP) and in each Provincial Councilor of Finance. Then he was second president of the Styrian state parliament until 1996 .

As finance state councilor he was a member of the then theater committee (today steering committee of the theater holding), the board of the music association for Styria and the presidium of the Styrian autumn .

During his time as provincial government in the 1980s, the so-called "broadcast television Shilling" as an adjunct to was ORF fee was introduced, has been funded with the income includes a number of major projects: These included the basic renovation of the Graz Opera , including a new building of Rehearsal, workshop and administration wing in Girardigasse with an additional stage for the youth theater Next Liberty , the renovation of the stage and the technology in the Graz theater . From 1977 to 1991 he was the funding coordinator for the Styrian cultural initiative . As the founding and long-term chairman of the Styrian Society for Cultural Policy, he worked (from 1979) on almost 250 projects of this society.

In addition, Klauser was chairman of the Styrian Association of Social Democratic Academics (BSA) from 1970 to 1996 .

Klauser was married and had two children. He died of cancer at the age of 85. After his death, he was recognized in the reporting as a politician who had earned great recognition far beyond the party lines "for his level-headed and balanced manner".
