Franz Majcen

Franz Majcen (born July 12, 1947 in Fürstenfeld ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and principal school director. From 1991 to 2015 he was a member of the Styrian state parliament , from October 21, 2010 he was second president, from January 22, 2013 until he left the state parliament he was president of the state parliament . Today he is in Styria, among other things, the president of the Steirisches Volksbildungswerk association , chairman of the gamsbART association and chairman of the local action group Thermenland-Wechselland ( LEADER ).

Life

Majcen attended elementary school and grammar school in Fürstenfeld before continuing his training at the Pedagogical Academy in Graz .

Majcen began his political career from 1972 to 1979 as district chairman of the Young People's Party (JVP) Fürstenfeld and was also regional chairman of the JVP Styria from 1974 to 1983. From 1975 he also worked as a councilor in Fürstenfeld and in 1979 took over the role of ÖVP city party chairman. He also held the office of Vice Mayor in Fürstenfeld until 1998. Majcen was district chairman of the ÖAAB and district chairman of the public service union from 1981 to 2013 . In addition, he worked from 1983 to 1991 as the staff representative chairman of the teachers and from 1989 to 1992 was district chairman of the ÖVP teachers' association.

Franz Majcen was second and from 2013 to 2015 first president of the Styrian state parliament from 2010 to 2013 . He is therefore the only Fürstenfelder who has ever held this position.

Within the party, he held the office of district party chairman of the ÖVP Fürstenfeld from 1992 to 2013, and he has also represented the ÖVP in the state parliament since 1991. He was area spokesman for Europe and Culture in the state parliament and deputy chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club until 2010.

Franz Majcen was director of the new middle school in Fürstenfeld in his civil profession.

Others

Franz Majcen has received numerous awards - including the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria and the honorary title of Professor . In addition, he has been involved in European politics for decades - u. a. as President of the European Federalist Movement Styria. For this commitment, he was honored with the Middle Europe Award 2018 on February 3, 2018 by the non-governmental organization Initiative Pro Mitteleuropa .

Majcen is also a member of the oldest Catholic Austrian MKV association in south-east Austria, the K.Ö.St.V. Riegersburg to Fürstenfeld .
