Anton Stephan

Anton Stephan (born March 11, 1910 in Graz ; † July 26, 1987 ) was an Austrian politician.

Life

Stephan grew up on his father's estate in Eastern Styria, attended grammar school and studied law at the University of Graz , where he was active in the Academic Corps Teutonia in Graz in 1929 . After completing his studies and doctorate, he took over the management of the family estate. From 1965 he worked for the Steiermärkische Ferngasgesellschaft.

In 1953, Stephan became a member of the Styrian state parliament for the Association of Independents (VdU) and in the same year a state councilor . In 1956 he was one of the founders of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and from 1957 to 1965 3rd President of the Styrian State Parliament.

After leaving state politics, he remained a councilor in his home town of Kirchbach in Styria . There he left in 1980 after 30 years of service.
