Anton Afritsch (politician)

Anton Afritsch (born June 14, 1902 in Graz , Styria , † January 17, 1990 in Sankt Stefan im Rosental , Styria) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Anton Afritsch was born into a prominent social democratic family. His father Anton Afritsch was a co-founder of Kinderfreunde , his brother Josef Afritsch served as Interior Minister of the Republic of Austria under the Chancellors Julius Raab and Alfons Gorbach . Another brother was the actor Viktor Afritsch .

After attending compulsory schools in Graz, Anton Afritsch first learned the trade of bookseller . After the First World War , Afritsch came to Vienna , where he found work, among other things, as a caretaker at Schönbrunn Palace .

In 1925, through self-study as well as attending the Pedagogical University of Styria , at that time still at Hasnerplatz in Graz, he acquired the teaching qualification test at elementary and secondary schools . The subjects he taught were German , history and geography . Initially, Afritsch worked as a teacher in Leoben , later again in Graz. During the Second World War , Afritsch worked as a teacher in what is now Slovenia . From 1945 Afritsch worked as head of the Styrian regional school board ; only one year later, in 1946, he became city school inspector in Graz.

In 1945 he moved into the Styrian Landtag as a social democratic member of parliament , to which he was to belong for 25 years until 1970. Most recently, Afritsch held the office of second state parliament president . In April 1953, he was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . However, his term of office as Federal Council lasted just under a year, until February 1954.
