Siegfried Stepwieser

Siegfried Stepwieser (born June 26, 1952 in Thörl , Styria ) is an Austrian state politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria ( SPÖ ). From 2005 to 2009 he was President of the Styrian Landtag and on September 22nd, 2009, he moved to the Styrian Provincial Government as Provincial Councilor . Until June 10, 2015 he was second governor -Stellvertreter, he joined back together with Franz Voves.

Life

After compulsory school, which he attended from 1958 to 1967, he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith at the wire producer Pengg AG in Thörl. He was involved with the Socialist Youth , whose regional chairman he was from 1968 to 1971, and the younger generation , whose regional chairman he was from 1972 to 1980. During his career at Pengg, he was a union representative. He then attended the Otto Möbes School of Economics in Graz in 1975 and the Social Academy in Mödling from 1977 to 1978 .

In 1980 he was first district manager, later until 2000 regional manager of the SPÖ. In 1987 he was first elected as a member of the state parliament in the Styrian state parliament. In 2000 he became the club leader of his parliamentary group. He held this position for three years before taking on his state parliament mandate from January 2004 to January 2006 as the mayor of his home town Thörl. Stepwieser had previously been a member of Thörl's local council from 1975 and was vice mayor from 1980 to 1988 and from 2000 until his election as mayor.

In the state elections in Styria in 2005 , the SPÖ won a majority and Siegfried Stepwieser was elected president of the state parliament in October of this year . In this function, stepwieser endeavored to improve the appearance of the state parliament externally, especially through international contacts, but also internally, through participation in numerous events at which the down-to-earth politician was able to maintain contact with the electorate.

On September 8th, 2009, Stepwieser was introduced by the Styrian Governor Franz Voves as a designated member of the state government and as a social and personal state council. The change to the state government took place on September 22, 2009. After the state elections in Styria in 2010 , Siegfried Stepwieser was re-elected to the Styrian state government on October 21, 2010 by the new state parliament. As deputy governor in the state government of Voves II, he was responsible for the social, labor and renewable energy departments.

After the SPÖ's defeat in the 2015 state elections and the loss of the state governor's position to the ÖVP, Stepwieser left the state government on June 16, 2015 and went into retirement. On 23 June 2015, it is presented with the regional chair of the SPÖ Bruck-Mürzzuschlag back its last remaining political post, and was succeeded by Jörg Leichtfried , also newly elected provincial government in the state government Schützenhöfer I .

Private

Siegfried Stepwieser is married and has a daughter.
