The list of provincial governments of Styria lists all provincial governments of the second largest Austrian federal state, Styria . The first was formed after the monarchy in 1918.

The first governor was the conservative Wilhelm Kaan from the then Greater German People's Party (GDVP), the longest serving governor was Josef Krainer senior from the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), who held this office from July 6, 1948 to November 28, 1971.

The party that most frequently provided the governor is the ÖVP (15 times) including its predecessors (GDVP, once, and the Christian Social Party , five times). The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) was the party with the largest number of votes in the state parliament in 1945 and again since 2005 and provided Franz Voves as the governor from 2005 to 2015, while in 2015 it renounced this office. The Fatherland Front provided the governor twice .

Anton Rintelen became the second governor of Styria in 1919 and initially held this office for seven years. He was part of the conservative Christian Social Party, which provided the Styrian regional chief from 1919 to 1934. Its successor party, the ÖVP, was the dominant party in Styria after the Second World War until 2005.

Franz Prisching took over the office from Rintelen in 1926. The pastor only held this office for four months.

Alfred Gürtler took over from Prisching in October 1926 and was Governor of Styria until May 1927. Gürtler was a member of the Austrian delegation to the peace negotiations in St. Germain . From 1919 to 1920 Alfred Gürtler was a member of the Constituent National Assembly .

Alois Dienstleder was the last Christian Social Governor of Styria. He was this for a year until November 1934.

Stepan was initially a member of the CS. Shortly after Engelbert Dollfuss proclaimed the corporate state in Vienna in 1933 , Stepan moved to Vienna and played a key role in building up the Fatherland Front, for which he also became the first governor of Styria in 1934.

Almost a week before Austria was annexed to the German Reich, Trummer took over the governing body of Styria for VF. After the National Socialists came to power, he was deposed on March 12, 1938.

After the annexation of Austria, Helfrich became the new governor of Styria (at that time still the official title of governor ). However, he only held this office for two months.

Uiberreither was Reich Governor in Styria for the entire Second World War . Immediately after the war he surrendered to the Allies and appeared as a witness before the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg . Afterwards, the native of Salzburg fled to evade the Yugoslav judiciary.

Reinhard Machold initiated a provisional state government with representatives of the SPÖ, ÖVP and the KPÖ, of which he became governor. This was recognized by both the Soviet occupying power and the subsequent British. After the first state election after the war, he was again deputy governor, as before.

Pirchegger was the first elected regional chief of Styria after the Second World War. Due to massive heart problems, which forced him to take a break in 1947, he finally resigned in 1948.

Josef Krainer senior took over the post of governor from the sick Anton Pirchegger in 1948. He held this office until 1971, making him the longest serving governor of Styria at the age of 23. He was also instrumental in the dominance of the ÖVP, which was only ended by the SPÖ in 2005.

In 1971, Friedrich Niederl took over from Josef Krainer sen. The institution. The lawyer was appointed district captain of Feldbach by the state government in 1960. In 1980 he resigned from the office of governor and became chairman of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Steiermark .

Like his father, Josef Krainer junior was a member of the ÖVP and continued the power of the conservatives in Styria. In contrast to his father, he held the office of governor for only 16 years. After a rather narrow election victory in 1996, he handed over his office to Waltraud Klasnic.

Klasnic was the first woman in the office of governor. However, unlike other national bosses did not want the country's principal wife, but with female governor be called. She was the first woman in Austria to hold this office after Gerhard Hirschmann, who had actually been proposed for it, renounced it in her favor.

Franz Voves, a former ice hockey player of the ATSE Graz, took over the governor's chair of Styria from Waltraud Klasnic for the first time since 1945 for the Social Democrats. He was also the first elected social democratic governor of Styria at all. In 2010 he was re-elected as governor.
