Anton Lang (born November 12, 1959 in Leoben ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). He was from May 2016 the provincial government in the state government Schützenhöfer I and since 17 December 2019 Governor -Stellvertreter in the state government Schützenhöfer II .

Life

After attending school and graduating from high school in his hometown, Lang worked as an internal auditor at the Sparkasse in Leoben from 1982 and is politically strongly rooted in the local SPÖ organization. Lang is the local chairman of the SPÖ Leoben-Hinterberg and was a councilor for youth and sports matters in Leoben. After Andrea Gessl-Ranftl moved to the National Council, Lang moved up to the state parliament on October 28, 2008. On June 30, 2009, Lang was also elected club chairman of the SPÖ-Leoben. From April 2014 he was also Leoben City Councilor for Finance.

On May 18, 2016, Lang was designated as state councilor as the successor to Jörg Leichtfried , who moved to the federal government of Kern as Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology . He is responsible for the areas of transport, the environment, renewable energies and sport. He describes local public transport , especially the S-Bahn, as the focus of this activity . On July 4, 2017, Michael Schickhofer announced that he would hand over the finance department to Anton Lang.

After the state elections in 2019 , Michael Schickhofer announced his resignation. The coalition negotiations for the formation of the state government Schützenhöfer II were conducted on the part of the SPÖ by Anton Lang. On January 27, 2020, he was elected executive SPÖ state party chairman in the state party executive.
