The Steiermärkische Bank und Sparkassen AG (usually short Steiermärkische was called) in 1825 as an association savings bank ( Steyer Märkische savings bank founded) and is the oldest financial institution in Styria . Business operations began on May 15, 1825 in the first business premises in the Landhaus , Schmiedgasse No. 9. The actual founder of the Steiermärkische Sparkasse was the personal representative of the emperor and his governor in Styria: Franz de Paula Graf Hartig. Since 1823 he was the kk governor of Styria and thus head of the kk steiermärkischen gubernium, the highest political authority of the country. In addition to his political duties, he also held a position that inspired him to found a savings bank in Graz. He had been a member of the First Austrian Spar-Casse Association since 1823 and had a direct insight into the beginnings of the savings bank system in Austria.
