Christopher Drexler (born March 15, 1971 ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ), was a member of the Styrian state parliament from 2000 to 2014 and club chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary group from 2003 to 2014.

On March 11, 2014, he succeeded Kristina Edlinger-Ploder as regional councilor for the areas of health, care, science and research as well as universities of applied sciences. After the announcement of Christian Buchmann's resignation as regional councilor on April 25, 2017, the departments were redistributed, Drexler handed over the science department to Barbara Eibinger-Miedl and took over the cultural department.

Drexler graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium Keplerstrasse in Graz and then began studying law in 1989 , which he completed in 1995 with a master's degree.

Political career

Drexler began his political work in the student council , he was elected as state school spokesman from 1988–1989 , and from 1988–1990 he was state chairman of the ÖVP-related Union of Higher Students . In 1991 he was already chairman of the young ÖVP Styria, he held this office until 1993.

In 1992 Drexler became state secretary of the ÖAAB , in 1996 he became managing director of "Modell Steiermark" instead . 1999–2000 Drexler was parliamentary group leader of the ÖAAB / ÖVP parliamentary group in the Styrian Chamber of Labor, in 2000 he became a member of the board of the Federal Chamber of Labor.

In the state elections in 2000 he was elected as a member of the state parliament for the ÖVP, in 2003 he became club chairman of the ÖVP state parliamentary group.

Since 2014 he has been a member of the Styrian regional government as a regional councilor.
