State election in Styria 2000
On October 15, 2000, state elections were held in Styria .
The ÖVP celebrated a historic victory and was able to win over 11% of the votes, a total of 47.3% meant 27 seats in the state parliament. This secured Waltraud Klasnic's position as governor .
The SPÖ lost a few votes and reached 32.3% (19 seats). The FPÖ also lost votes, got 12.4% and thus 7 mandates.
The Greens gained slightly, won a third parliamentary mandate and received 5.6% of the vote. The Liberal Forum lost, however, only reaching 1.11% and thus failed to return to the state parliament.
The KPÖ also failed to make it into the state parliament again with 1.03%, while the Austrian Natural Law Party , which only appeared in the two constituencies of Graz and the surrounding area and Upper Styria - Styria , with 0.23%, was unable to win any state parliament mandates.
The turnout fell massively from 86.92% (1995) to 74.64%.
