State election in Styria 1986
On September 21, 1986 state elections were held in Styria .
The elections were dominated by the running of many new lists, a total of nine lists were candidates, six of them in all constituencies. The ÖVP was able to expand the absolute majority with a slight gain in votes, Josef Krainer junior (ÖVP) kept his post as governor .
The ÖVP achieved 51.8% and thus 30 seats, the SPÖ lost votes and received 37.6% (22 seats). The FPÖ was just able to maintain its position as the third strongest party and received 4.6% (2 seats).
The first Green Alternative List Styria (VGÖ-AL) was able to achieve 3.73% and thus 2 mandates. The KPÖ failed to make it into the state parliament again with 1.18%, nor did the Austrian Greens (DGÖ) achieve a mandate with 0.64%.
The Green - Styrian List, which was only run in two of the four constituencies (Graz and the surrounding area and Upper Styria), clearly missed out with 0.20% of the votes. The Gesunde Heimat list (only Upper Styria, 0.14% of the votes in total) and the Green Oil - Kernel Oil list (only competed in Graz and the surrounding area, 0.15% in total) also had no chance.
