On October 20, 1974, state elections were held in Styria .

The ÖVP celebrated a landslide victory and gained a clear absolute majority. Friedrich Niederl (ÖVP) remained governor.

With 53.3% of the votes (31 seats), the ÖVP achieved a clear majority, while the SPÖ received 41.2% of the votes (23 seats). The third strongest party remained the FPÖ with 4.2% (2 seats), the KPÖ failed to make it into the state parliament with 1.35%.
