State election in Styria in 1927
The state elections in Styria in 1927 were held on April 24, 1927 and were the third state elections in Styria during the First Republic .
The state parliament was reduced from 70 to 56 seats. The unified list of the Christian Social Party (CSP), Greater German People's Party (GDVP) and National Socialists was formed in advance . With 12.56% it lost the election significantly compared to the overall result of the individual parties in 1923 and with 40.83% and 24 seats was just ahead of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of German Austria (SDAPDÖ), which achieved 36.94% and 21 seats with slight gains . The Landbund was able to gain considerably in votes and achieved 16.1% and 9 seats, one more than in 1923.
In addition, the business association for Austria, a party that had been founded by the free economist and life reformer Johannes Ude and was therefore often called the " Ude Party ". It immediately achieved 4.66% and two mandates.
The Völkisch Social Block achieved only 1.1% and no mandate, as did the Communist Party of Austria , which was further marginalized with 0.37%. Other groups received 0.1% of the vote.
Despite the loss of the unified list, the MPs re-elected Alfred Gürtler (EL / CSP) as governor, as the federal government had refused to elect a Social Democrat as governor. Gürtler had replaced Franz Prisching (CS), who had succeeded Anton Rintelen (CSP) during the election period because Rintelen had become Federal Minister for Education in 1926 . On May 21, 1927 Gürtler was replaced by Hans Paul (CSP). Rintelen returned to state politics in 1928 and took over the office on April 23, 1928.
