State election in Styria in 1949
On October 9, 1949, the second state elections were held in post-war Styria .
The first appearance of the electoral party of the independents (WDU / VDU) cost the ÖVP an absolute majority. The ÖVP, however, remained the strongest party, Josef Krainer senior , who had replaced Anton Pirchegger , who had resigned for health reasons, as governor in 1948 , kept his post as governor.
The ÖVP achieved 42.9% (22 seats), the SPÖ got 37.4% of the votes and thus 18 seats, the third strongest party was the VDU with 14.5% (7 seats), the KPÖ achieved one with 4.5% Mandate. The Democratic Union list ran in all constituencies, but only achieved 0.5% of the vote and failed to enter the state parliament, as did the fourth party list , which only ran in the constituency "Graz and the surrounding area" and only received 0.06%. who could unite voices.
