Distribution of seats in the Tyrolean state parliament 1949–1953

A total of 36 seats

The state elections in Tyrol in 1949 took place on October 9, 1949. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) lost significant votes and each lost two seats to the electoral party of the Independent (WdU), which ran for the first time in 1949. The Communist Party of Austria (CPA) failed as in 1945 on its way into the parliament, which the Fourth Party (4.P.) also missed clear.

In 1949, 237,912 people were eligible to vote in the state elections, which meant an increase of 59,803 people eligible to vote. The reason for the strong increase in the number of eligible voters was mainly due to the fact that numerous former National Socialists had regained the right to vote. The voter turnout had also risen sharply compared to 1945 from 89.89% to 96.57%.
