State election in Tyrol 1970
The state election in Tyrol in 1970 took place on October 4, 1970. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) suffered losses and lost two of its 25 mandates to the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), which with 12 members achieved its best result in a state election in Tyrol in the 2nd republic. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) remained almost unchanged and was able to hold its only mandate. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) re-emerged in 1970 after not running in 1965, but failed, as did the Democratic Progressive Party (DFP), the Liberal Party of Austria (LPÖ) and the Party-Free Democrats (PFD), each only in the constituencies of Innsbruck-Stadt, West and Mitte had stood for entry into the state parliament.
In 1970 326,425 people were entitled to vote in the state elections, which meant an increase in the number of people entitled to vote by 17,499 people. The voter turnout had also risen slightly from 90.72% in 1965 to 92.34%.
