State election in Tyrol 1953
The state elections in Tyrol in 1953 took place on October 25, 1953. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to achieve slight profits and hold the absolute majority of votes and mandates, but lost a mandate to the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), which emerged as the winner of the state election. The electoral party of the Independents (WdU) suffered heavy losses, but was able to maintain its mandate, while the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed to make it into the state parliament, as in the previous elections.
In 1953 256,497 people were entitled to vote in the state elections, which meant an increase in the number of people entitled to vote by 18,585. In contrast, voter turnout had also fallen slightly from 96.57% in 1949 to 93.93%.
