A total of 36 seats

The regional elections in Tyrol in 1979 took place on September 30, 1979. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to achieve slight profits and maintained its previous mandate of 24 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), on the other hand, lost 3.1% of the vote and had to surrender another mandate after 1970, this time to the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). The SPÖ only received 10 seats, the FPÖ was able to provide two seats for the first time since 1961. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) and the List of Tyrolean Medium-Sized Enterprises (MS) failed in their entry into the state parliament.
