State election in Burgenland 1949

The state election in Burgenland 1949 was carried out on October 9, 1949 and was the 6th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In the election, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to increase its absolute majority of votes compared to the state elections in 1945 by 1.8 percentage points and achieved a clear absolute majority of 52.6%. The ÖVP was also able to increase its mandate from 17 to 18 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), on the other hand, lost around 4.5% and had 13 seats in the new state parliament with 40.4%, which meant that it had to give up one seat compared to 1945. The electoral party of the Independents (WdU) in particular benefited from this, achieving 3.85% and one mandate when they ran for the first time. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), on the other hand, lost 0.3% and was kicked out of the state parliament. The Unification of the Middle (EM) list also missed entry into the state parliament , which clearly failed with 0.2%.
