from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The state election in Burgenland 1991 was carried out on June 23, 1991 and was the 16th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In this brought forward new election, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to stabilize again after the heavy losses in the state elections in 1987 and achieved a plus of 0.8% with a share of the vote of 48.1%. Thus the SPÖ again achieved 17 of 36 mandates. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), however, continued its downward trend and lost votes for the eighth time in a row. With 38.2% of the vote, the ÖVP lost 3.3% and one of its mandates. The ÖVP subsequently provided 15 members of the state parliament. The winner of this election was the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which gained 2.4% and with 9.7% won one seat in addition to its previous three seats. The Green Alternative (GAL) failed with 3.4%, as in 1987, when it entered the state parliament, which the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which was running for the first time, missed with 0.6%. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) did not run for the first time since 1945.

The Diet of the XVI. The legislative period was constituted on July 18, 1991 and on that day elected the Stix I state government .
