State election in Burgenland 1964
The state election in Burgenland 1964 was carried out on March 22, 1964 and was the 10th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In the election, the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) won the relative majority in a Burgenland state election with a plus of 2.1% for the first time in the 2nd Republic and, after winning a mandate, also provided 16 of the 32 state parliament members for the first time. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, lost 0.9% and one mandate and, with 47.3%, was only able to send 15 members to the newly elected state parliament. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) lost around 1%, but with 3.6% was able to keep its mandate in the state parliament, the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed with 0.9%, as for the third time in a row, to enter the state parliament.
The state parliament of the 10th legislative period was constituted on April 17, 1964 and elected the Bögl state government on June 12, 1964 and, for the first time, a SPÖ politician as governor, Hans Bögl . For the first time in the Second Republic, the state elections led to the replacement of a party that was the governor.
