State election in Burgenland 1953
The state election in Burgenland 1953 was carried out on February 22, 1953 and was the 7th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In the election, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lost its absolute majority of votes compared to the 1949 state election and two of its mandates with a loss of 4.2 percentage points. With 16 out of 32 seats, however, it was able to prevent a majority of other parties in the state parliament. The left parties in particular benefited from the losses of the ÖVP. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to make up for its losses in 1949 and, with a gain of 4.3 percentage points, gained an additional mandate, with which it achieved 14 mandates. The electoral party of the Independent (WdU) lost 0.2 percentage points, but was able to maintain its mandate with a share of 3.6% of the vote. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) succeeded in re-entering the state parliament with 3.2%, in which it subsequently appointed a member. The unification of the middle (EM) did not take place in 1953.
The state parliament of the VII legislative period was constituted on March 19, 1953 and on that day elected the state government Karall III .
