State election in Burgenland 1972
The state election in Burgenland 1972 was carried out on October 8, 1972 and was the 12th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In the election, the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to maintain its majority of the votes, but lost one of its 17 seats to date when the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) re-entered the state parliament. With a small plus of 0.2%, the SPÖ came in 1972 to 50.5% of the vote. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had to accept a decline in its share of the vote for the fourth time in a row and again achieved 15 seats with a minus of 0.6% and a share of 45.9%. The FPÖ gained around 0.8% and was able to move back into the state parliament with a member of the parliament with a share of 3.1%. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), on the other hand, failed with 0.4%, as did the Liberal Party of Austria (LPÖ), which achieved 0.1%.
