State election in Burgenland 1968
The state election in Burgenland 1968 was carried out on March 24, 1968 and was the 11th state election in the Austrian state of Burgenland . In the election, the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to expand the relative majority of votes it had achieved in the 1964 state elections to an absolute majority of votes and mandates. It gained 2.1% and one mandate and subsequently provided 17 of the 32 mandataries with 50.3%. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, lost its share of the vote for the third time in a row and, with a minus of 0.7%, achieved 46.6% of the votes. The ÖVP was able to keep its 15 mandates despite the losses. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) lost around 1.4% and, with only 2.2%, clearly failed to return to the state parliament, in which it had previously appointed a member. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) also failed to enter the state parliament with 0.5%, which the Democratic Progressive Party (DFP) , which had entered for the first time, also missed with 0.4%.
