The provincial government Stix I under governor Karl Stix (SPÖ) forms the Burgenland provincial government from the election by the Burgenland Landtag in the XVI. Legislative period on July 18, 1991 until the state government Stix II was sworn in on June 27, 1996.

After the regional elections in 1991 , the Burgenland provincial government again consisted of seven members, of which the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) had four representatives and the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had three members. Instead of the previous governor Johann Sipötz , the former governor Karl Stix was elected governor. Hermann Fister took up the position of regional councilor . Otherwise, the government team initially remained unchanged from the previous term of office. On March 18, 1993, however, Josef Schmidt (SPÖ) resigned his mandate, and on the same day the previous member of the state parliament Josef Tauber was elected. On April 21, 1993, Deputy Governor Franz Sauerzopf (ÖVP) also resigned from his office, and on the following day his party friend and Member of the State Parliament, Gerhard Jellasitz, was sworn in for him . After being appointed to the Vranitzky III federal government , Christa Krammer resigned from office on March 16, 1994 as regional councilor. On March 24, 1994, Christa Prets was elected regional councilor for her.
