history

In the state elections on January 26, 2020 , the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) won 19 out of 36 seats, and thus the absolute majority. Governor Hans Peter Doskozil announced an SPÖ sole government , the state government was reduced from seven to five members compared to the state government Doskozil I. The SPÖ government team remained unchanged. Doskozil announced that it would hold project-related talks with all parties, for example with the Greens in the field of transport and environmental protection and with the ÖVP about cooperation with business. The security partners, a project of the previous Deputy Governor Johann Tschürtz (FPÖ) will no longer exist in this form. This will be dismantled step by step. After the abolition of proportional representation in 2015, this is the first sole government in Burgenland since 1945.

On January 30th, 2020 it was announced that Astrid Eisenkopf would become Deputy Governor . The economic sector is to move from the previous state councilor Alexander Petschnig (FPÖ) to social state councilor Christian Illedits . Tourism will be merged with culture and will in future be the responsibility of the governor.

Before the constituent meeting on February 17, 2020, the FPÖ and Greens announced that they would also elect Hans Peter Doskozil and his team.

The division of responsibilities was fixed on February 14, 2020. In addition to the previous areas of finance, health and hospitals, personnel, asylum, culture, clubs and EU issues, Hans Peter Doskozil took over the tourism department from the former FPÖ regional councilor Alexander Petschnig and the security department from the previous deputy governor Johann Tschürtz . Deputy Governor Astrid Eisenkopf took over the municipalities in addition to the women, agriculture and environment departments. Provincial councilor Christian Illedits remained responsible for social affairs and also took over the economy from Alexander Petschnig. Regional Councilor Heinrich Dorners focus remained the infrastructure, Daniela Winkler remained education regional councilor.

Doskozil's partner Julia Jurtschak was originally appointed as a consultant in his office. Among other things, she was supposed to plan and develop social markets in all districts. Due to negative reactions, including from NEOS and ÖVP, she did not accept the post.

On February 17, 2020, Hans Peter Doskozil was elected Governor of the Burgenland State Parliament with 35 out of 36 votes, one vote was invalid.

After the resignation of Provincial Councilor Christian Illedits on August 1, 2020, the official in the office of the Burgenland Provincial Government Sonja Windisch took over the business of the open government position on an interim basis. On August 12, 2020, Leonhard Schneemann was presented as Illedit's successor as a social and economic councilor. He was elected and sworn in on August 13, 2020 in the state parliament. Hunting and fishing moved from Deputy Governor Astrid Eisenkopf to the responsibility of Schneemann, the sports agendas and the Committee of the Regions were taken over by Provincial Councilor Heinrich Dorner .
